...And more and MORE

Alright, so now that summer's official, I think we should just sort of kick it off with some competitons to start with, and then branch off into some crazy, fun times!

So, first up:

The Geneva Cultural Arts Commission in Geneva, Illinois is seeking original unique design concepts
for the initial phase of the Artist/Designer Bike Rack Project called Bike + Rack = Art.
The program is slated to be a recurring annual competition. The size and location of the racks may vary.
You need not be a resident of Geneva to enter.
Artists need no fabrication skills to enter the competition; The Cultural Arts Commission
will be responsible for the fabrication and installation of winning bike rack designs should
the artist not have the facilities to fabricate the design.

There is no cost to submit an entry!
Initial submissions are for concepts only.
Please refer to the Entry Forms / RFP for further info.
Secondly:

Purdue University Galleries (West Lafayette, Indiana) invite entries for “BFSD (Big Fat Scary Deal),” a national exhibition of contemporary art dedicated to the edgy, weird, unsettling and scary, produced by oddly creative individuals.
The exhibition will be presented in the Robert L. Ringel Gallery in Stewart Center from October 21 through December 8, 2013.

The competition is open to artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States. Entries must be original visual artworks in any media, including new and emerging technologies. Submitted works must be original and completed in the past three years (2010 - 2013), no larger than 8 feet tall or 10 feet wide, and must be shippable (flat or rolled) by common carrier or hand-delivered. Individuals associated with Purdue University are ineligible.
Selections will be made by Elizabeth K. Mix, Associate Professor of Art History at Butler University, Indianapolis, IN; Tess Cortés, Coordinator of the Robert & Elaine Stein Galleries at Wright State University, Dayton OH; and Craig Martin, Director of Purdue University Galleries.

There is no entry fee, but exhibiting artists will be responsible for all shipping expenses involved in participating in the exhibition.

Submissions will be due at the Purdue University Galleries by August 1, 2013.

Artists may submit images of up to 8 original works completed in the last three years (2010 – 2013). Selections will be made from digital images in the form of jpeg files or video files – no PowerPoint slideshows. Digital files should be labeled with artist’s name and lettered to correspond to the entry form (i.e. “Smith_A.jpg”) – maximum image dimension of eight inches in image size – maximum resolution of 300 dpi. All images should be of the highest quality possible to ensure accurate consideration. The curators reserve the right to reject accepted works that differ significantly from the jpeg submissions.

Interested artists should submit examples of current work (up to 8 jpegs on CD; DVD for time-based media), resume, artist statement, and the completed PDF entry form, which is available for download at cla.purdue.edu/galleries.
Submissions can be mailed or emailed to:
• BFSD, Purdue University Galleries, Yue-Kong Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts, 552 West Wood Street, West Lafayette, IN 47907-2002

• artentry@purdue.edu (use ‘BFSD’ in subject line; DVD submission preferred for large video files)
Questions: cdmartin@purdue.edu, (765) 494-3061.
With the submission of work for exhibition, the artist grants permission to photograph and reproduce any accepted work for publicity purposes.
